Which Glue Should You Use with Swarovski Flatback Crystals?

Swarovski flatback crystals are a popular choice for embellishing shoes, clothing and other craft projects. However, if you’re new to using these types of crystals, you may be wondering which type of glue you should be using.

It’s worth pointing out here that if you’re using hotfix flatback crystals, you don’t actually need to use any. It’s only the non-hotfix crystals which need to be applied with glue. So, if you’re working with non-hotfix Swarovski crystals, which type should you choose?

Do you need specialist glue?

You do need to ensure that the glue you’re choosing for your Swarovski flatback crystals is designed specifically for jewellery making. When you invest in this type of specialist glue, you can be certain it’s going to give an excellent hold.

While any super-strong glue may seem like an ideal option, you need to ensure it’s going to withstand the test of time and pose no risk of damage to the crystals. While Swarovski flatback crystals are affordable, you still don’t want to risk spoiling them with the wrong type of glue.

Is there a particular brand you should be using?

You’ll find there are a lot of brands available when choosing flatback crystal glue. However, some brands are definitely considered better than others. At Bluestreak Crystals, we only stock the very best brands, so whichever you choose you know it’s going to be suitable for your project.

However, we do recommend the two-component Epoxy resin 9030 Swarovski Jewellery Glue. This has been specifically designed with Swarovski crystals in mind, and it’s suitable for use with very small crystals. That is something you need to pay attention to. Some glues are designed to be used with specifically sized crystals, so you will need to ensure you’re choosing the right type for the crystals you’ll be using.

Besides the Swarovski glue, E-6000 and Gem-tac are two other great brands to consider.

What else should you consider when choosing the right glue?

There are actually a few factors you’ll need to consider when choosing the right glue. As well as considering the size of the Swarovski flatback crystals you’re using, you’ll also need to pay attention to the materials you’re glueing. For example, some types of glue are better for use with crystals than others. Some are also ideal for glueing crystals to textiles, while others aren’t.

As you can see, there are numerous things you need to consider when choosing the best glue. While the brand isn’t necessarily important, you do need to ensure the glue you use is suitable for the crystals, and the type of items you’re glueing them onto.
